Doug Little present a special night of music either written or inspired by Cuban piano virtuoso Roberto Fonseca.  In addition to Little on saxophone, flute, and bass clarinet, the quartet will also feature pianist Peter Schimke and drummer Rey Rivera.

Cuban pianist Roberto Fonseca came into prominence as young pianist in last band of Buena Vista Social Club member, Ibrahim Ferrer.  His music blends traditional Cuban harmonies and rhythms with a profound knowledge of gospel, classical music, and other non-Cuban influences.  While little known in the United States, he is musically reknowned in his homeland and headlining artist at European and Asian jazz festivals.

Little first heard Fonseca in 2002 while in Havana for an early music research trip.  Little returned to Cuba in 2005 and 2010 and became even more acquainted with Fonseca's music, getting to know band saxophonist Javier Zalba.

Much of the evening's repertoire has not been heard live in the United States.  Come enjoy an evening of Latin tinged melodies and soulful grooves.
